Becerra brings extensive experience expanding, defending equitable access to health care for everyone in America
WASHINGTON — In response to the Senate’s confirmation of Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services today, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Xavier Becerra’s historic confirmation as the first Latino Secretary of Health and Human Services is a win for people across the country facing barriers to accessing affordable health care. As HHS secretary, Becerra will prioritize the interests of patients, not the insurance lobby, Big Pharma or other corporations that put profit ahead of people’s health.
“From playing a key role in the Affordable Care Act’s passage as a House member, to defending the interests of patients against predatory drug manufacturers and insurance companies as Attorney General of California, Secretary Becerra has spent his career advocating for equitable access to health care regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, geography or income. His leadership will be invaluable to a successful federal response to the pandemic and the Biden administration’s efforts to ensure that all people can get the health care they need.”
