Voters Reject GOP Health Care Attacks, Elect Democratic Majority to U.S. House
Washington, DC – In response to the results of the November 6 midterm elections, Health Care for America Now Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Tonight, voters rejected Republicans’ endless attacks on affordable health care and President Trump’s divisive rhetoric, giving Democrats control of the House of Representatives. Voters didn’t fall for the GOP’s last minute ploys to cover up last year’s votes to dismantle the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and end protections for pre-existing conditions but instead rejected Republicans’ relentless assault on their constituents’ health care. Americans from coast to coast made it clear that taking away health care to pay for tax breaks for corporations and the rich won’t be tolerated.
“Now it’s up to our newly elected officials to address the damage that Republicans have inflicted on our health care and the continued sabotage of the ACA, perpetrated by the Trump Administration. Voters must stay energized and engaged to protect and expand the essential programs Republicans have worked to undermine like food assistance, Medicaid, Medicare and the ACA in order to improve life for more families.
“Grassroots women in particular, who led the charge to stop ACA repeal last year and to get out the vote this year, must continue to mobilize for health care and against the continued attacks on reproductive rights and abortion access from the President, Republicans at all levels, and the Supreme Court. Electing Democrats who support health care is a first step. Now, we must hold our elected officials accountable to defend our priorities.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
