Trump’s New Medicaid Restrictions Are Just Cuts in Disguise
Washington, DC – In response to the Trump Administration’s new policy that will allow states to stop providing Medicaid for people who cannot meet specific work requirements, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“This new policy is vindictive and a transparent effort by the Trump administration to take health care away from seniors, children, people with disabilities and low-income Americans. When Republicans forced through a $1.4 trillion tax giveaway to millionaires and billionaires, cuts to life-saving safety net programs like Medicaid were always the next step in order to pay for the massive deficit they created. Medicaid recipients already face stringent requirements, and the overwhelming majority of Americans on Medicaid who can work already do so. Imposing additional restrictions is just the latest Republican effort to end the program as we know it. Instead of trying again and again to take health care away from people, our lawmakers should strengthen the Affordable Care Act and expand access to affordable care.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
