Senate Budget Deal Represents Significant Step Forward in Securing Health Care Funding
House Must Now Finish the Job and Protect DREAMers Before March Deadline
Washington, DC – In response to the Senate vote for bipartisan budget deal, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Finally, Senate Republicans and Democrats have reached a deal to provide greater certainty to seniors, working families, veterans, people with disabilities, and children. It’s outrageous that it took so long to come to an agreement on funding programs that have overwhelming public and bipartisan support. Whether it’s helping to easy the cost of childcare for parents or helping seniors afford expensive medications, this is a significant step in the right direction.
“We urge the House to pass this bill immediately, so Congress can focus on a deal to avert disaster for DREAMers. Congressional Republicans’ failure to address this crisis of President Trump’s making only further demonstrates their inability to govern. It’s past time to pass a clean DREAM Act that provides protection and a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of young people living in fear of deportation and detention, as well as their families. The clock is ticking, and Americans are watching.”
