SCOTUS Decision Attacks Working Families, Further Rigs the Economy for the Rich
Washington, DC– In response to the Supreme Court decision in Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling attacks working people and further rigs our economy and democracy in favor of corporations and billionaires. It’s an attack on the public services we depend on and the people who provide them. It’s an attack on millions of health care workers, teachers, social workers, firefighters, 911 operators and many other public service employees that we all depend on every day.
“America needs unions more than ever to fix a democracy and economy rigged in favor of the wealthy and powerful. Unions are the best way to move people into the middle class, especially for women and people of color. Unions have always been leaders in public policy fights for critical social insurance programs like Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act.
“No court can stand in the way of workers coming together to build strong unions to better their lives and improve their communities.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
