HCAN: Extreme Partisan Politics Has No Business in the Doctor’s Office
Washington, DC – Following the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear a case challenging Kentucky’s law forcing doctors to perform an ultrasound and show and describe it to patients before an abortion, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Extreme partisan politics has no business in the exam room or inserting itself between a doctor and their patient. Today, the Supreme Court failed to fulfill its duty to uphold the constitutional right to an abortion for people in Kentucky. This unconstitutional and wildly unethical law forces doctors to ignore medicine and what is best for their patient. We cannot allow extreme policies from politicians hell bent on denying women the right to choose if, when and how to have a baby to dictate the care patients receive.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
