GOP’s #TaxScam 2.0 Steals from Working Families to Give to the Rich
Washington, DC – In response to House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) releasing new tax legislation today that provides even more tax cuts to the wealthiest one percent, Health Care for America Now Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Congressman Brady’s tax plan is a ploy to win political points with the wealthy CEOs bankrolling the GOP and if passed, will only further harm working Americans. We’ve already seen the damage done by the Republicans’ first round of tax legislation that gave away billions in tax breaks to billionaires, millionaires, and corporations like Big Pharma. Meanwhile, Republicans want to steal from programs that help veterans, working families, low-income Americans, and people with disabilities, including Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and food assistance, calling for $5 trillion in cuts to these essential programs to pay for more tax breaks for the rich.
“Americans couldn’t afford the first GOP tax scam, and we don’t want a second one. Instead of selling out working families to line the pockets of big corporations and the very rich, lawmakers should be making the rich and corporations pay their fair share of taxes to protect affordable health care, lower costs and invest in programs that help everyone get ahead.”
