The GOP’s Political Grudge Against the ACA May Cost Millions Health Care
Washington, DC – In response to the Texas v. United States decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“With President Trump at the helm, the GOP has continued their endless war on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the essential protections it provides for millions of American families, seniors, veterans, women and children. Trump and Republican elected officials at every level – from attorneys general to senators – repeatedly ignored voters’ rejection of their attacks on health care and the grassroots calls to protect affordable care. And to what end? Only dire consequences for American families will come from the continued partisan grudge against Obamacare.
“Today’s decision leaves millions of families in limbo—still facing anxiety and insecurity about their health coverage. The ACA is not out of danger and without it, millions will lose their insurance, either because they are denied the basic right to health care or priced out by insurance companies that can charge them more based on age, gender or preexisting conditions. Striking down the ACA through any means necessary, including politicizing the courts which are meant to be a check on legislative and executive power, shows where President Trump and Republicans really stand on health care—it’s not with their constituents.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is the national grassroots coalition that ran a $60 million five-and-a-half year campaign from 2008-2013 to pass, protect, and promote the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and protect Medicare and Medicaid. HCAN has come back together to fight the Republicans’ all-out effort to take away America’s health care and put people at the mercy of the health insurance companies again.
