GOP Must Stop the War on America’s Health Care
Health Care for America Now (HCAN) co-directors, Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement after the Senate Republicans failed to garner enough support for their repeal bill:
“The apparent collapse of the Republican repeal bill is an extraordinary victory for constituents across the country who refused to be ignored or silenced and fought the GOP effort to take away their health care. They will continue to stand up to protect their care in the face of threats from President Trump and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to push through a stand-alone repeal vote or any future Republican efforts to slash Medicaid or privatize Medicare through the budget process.
“No matter how Congressional Republicans try to strip millions of the care they need, we’ll be there to fight them every step of the way. A repeal and delay vote is reckless, mean-spirited and self-serving. In an endless effort to claim a political victory, Republican leaders appear willing to do just about anything – regardless of how many millions of Americans will lose care as a result. According to CBO, 32 million Americans will lose their care and premiums will double if the law is repealed without a replacement. That’s cataclysmic and unconscionable.
“It’s time to move on. The GOP should stop their war on America’s health care and work on bipartisan efforts to make health care more affordable and accessible for all.”
