Congress must prioritize lowering healthcare costs in final package
WASHINGTON — Following the U.S. House’s approval of a $3.5 trillion budget proposal today, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Today’s vote in the U.S. House is an important step toward the passage of President Biden’s Build Back Better budget. Particularly as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in communities around the country, it is crucial for Congress to prioritize passing a budget that makes healthcare more affordable and accessible for millions of people nationwide. The budget proposal approved today would improve access to healthcare with a series of bold policies, including closing the Medicaid coverage gap, making Affordable Care Act insurance plans more affordable and enabling Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices. The Build Back Better budget would provide all these benefits to everyday Americans while at the same time fixing our skewed tax code to ensure that the rich and corporations finally start paying their fair share of taxes.
“Congress has a historic, once-in-a-generation opportunity to make healthcare more affordable for millions of Americans with this new budget. Now that the budget proposal has been approved by both the House and the Senate, Congress should move quickly to pass a final bill that includes these crucial measures to ensure more Americans can get the healthcare they need.”
