Biden’s Health Care Executive Orders are Essential to Overcoming the Pandemic, Furthering Access to Affordable Health Care and Reproductive Care
New Administration Must Continue to Meet Americans’ Growing Health Care Needs
In response to President Biden’s executive orders on health care policy issued today, Health Care for America Now Executive Director Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Today’s Executive Orders finally reverse the harm that Trump’s administration did to the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, Title X and other programs and increase access to affordable health care for everyone, especially now as millions of people struggle with job and health care loss. By reopening the Affordable Care Act (ACA) insurance exchanges, expanding Medicaid enrollment, and rescinding restrictions on abortion care, the Biden administration is making it clear that health care and increasing health equity are priorities. This action lays the groundwork for advancing more policies that will increase access and affordability for millions more people through policy proposals like the ones featured in the American Rescue Plan that invest in pandemic response, vaccinations, and other key components.
“There is much work to be done to tackle our nation’s ongoing health care challenges. The Biden administration must continue to build on today’s actions and implement more policies that make health care more affordable, provide relief to Americans impacted by COVID-19, and holistically address the many economic and social factors that influence racial disparities in health and well-being. We look forward to working with the administration to secure better health outcomes for people across the country.”
