ACA Repeal Attempt Shows GOP’s Determination to Steal Health Care from Working Families, Women and Seniors
Washington, DC – In response to the latest call by Republicans for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Republicans are determined to take away our health care and send us back to a time when insurance companies made the rules. Before the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans had no health care; families declared bankruptcy trying to take care of their loved ones; and far too many died because the treatment or prescription they needed was out of reach. President Trump and the GOP want to turn back the clock, but Americans won’t stand for it.
“Since taking office, Trump has viciously sabotaged the health of the people he claims to represent, increasing out of pocket costs by intentionally destabilizing the insurance market, and undermining consumer protections for people with pre-existing conditions. He’s endorsed proposals that end Medicaid as we know it and even passed a tax law that cuts the ACA to pay for trillions in tax breaks to millionaires, insurance companies and prescription drug manufacturers. Rather than listen to their constituents, this latest push for repeal shows Republicans are willing to endangers millions of working families, seniors and women to push their partisan corporate donors’ agenda. But Americans are paying attention will make their opposition to repeal loud and clear like they did last year.
