GOP Continues to Play Politics with DREAMers as Deadline Quickly Approaches
Washington, DC – In response to the U.S. House of Representatives passing another short-term bill to fund the government through March 22nd without providing long-term certainty and protections for hundreds of thousands of DREAMers or funding the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, Health Care for America Now Co-Directors Ethan Rome and Margarida Jorge released the following statement:
“Republicans continue their ‘kick the can down the road’ brand of governing with another short-term bill that fails to provide any certainty and protections to DREAMers and leaves thousands of poor babies and infants without home visitations that help them develop and get ready for school. This is irresponsible and unconscionable. Instead of making backroom deals and playing political games, Congress should take decisive action to ensure people brought to the United States as children get a shot to live without the shadow of deportation hanging over them. And it shouldn’t take more than four months to ensure millions don’t lose access to care they need at community health centers. Failing to fund critical programs while funding others only in short, temporary bursts is no way to govern. President Trump and Congressional Republicans created these crises, and it’s long past time they offer real solutions to fix what they broke.”
