i had medical insurance through my husband's job. my job did not offer it.(i worked for a doctor) when my husband left me unexpectantly, i lost my insurance. trying to get private coverage was a joke. they had so many limitations and waiting periods. i have degenerative disc disease, and they would not pay a dime on it for 3 years. they more than doubled my monthly payments within 18 months, and i had never, never even used it. i had was a $10,000.00 deductable, and i had to pay the first $1000.00 on prescription drugs.and that only applied on the covered conditions.in other words, i paid alot of money on a worthless policy, and still had to pay completely out of pocket for my degenerative disc disease. i had to cancel the policy.the closer i came to the 3 year waiting period, the harder they they would work to ensure that the day would never come. i see no way ,under the current system, for me to ever receive any health care at all. my sister is mentally disabled and receives medicaid and medicare. she gets good quality care, which i appreciate. i just wish that my many years of working full time would afford me the same thing. in closing, i want to add that, after 17 continuous years with the same doctor, he recently let me go, due to "cut backs" i will be 50 years old next month, and have worked and/ or attended school my entire life. now i am uninsured and unemployeed. i have a lot of hope for myself, as well as this country, however. i am so glad to know that there are people like ya'll .thankyou for your work.
