I currently have no health insurance so I have been neglecting my health including not taking maintenance prescriptions, such as Crestor for cholesterol. This worries me alot after the sudden death of Tim Russert.
However, last month, I had a sinus infection that I had been putting off getting treatment for until it was too late. I went to Statcare (University Hospitals/Mercy Medical Center), and, I informed them that I had no health insurance. At that time, I was told rudely in the future, to bring my checkbook because they want $$ upfront. (This is a new policy). Then, I went back to have my vitals taken-the nurse asked if I had a primary care doctor-I said "yes," but, I could no longer fight infection and, that it would be awhile before his office could reach me. She then told me to contact him first in the future and, I am already upset, found out my blood pressure (which normally is good), was extremely high. I felt I was being treated as a "second-class" citizen due to my lack of health insurance. Now I have unexpectedly lost my job and no $$ to pay for the visit. Our country's healthcare system is a big joke-only for those that can afford it get it.
