Michele

Oklahoma City, OK

My husband and I are self-employed and do not have employer insurance. Recently I went to purchase private insurance and have been denied twice. The reasons? I was diagnosed with low blood sugar two years ago. It's been entirely treatable with diet and I've been very careful to manage it so it wouldn't become worse. I've not had to take medication and have been fine for 18 months. Their second reason is because I started taking an anti-depressant after becoming a bit blue following the death of my father.

If these two relatively minor issues keep me from getting affordable health insurance (and they were even high deductible plans), I can't imagine how impossible it is for people with serious health issues.
