I am a registered nurse. My friend had open heart surgery - 6 bypass grafts - 2 years ago. His bill was over $100,000 and he had no health insurance. He was willing to pay each bill a small amount and pay them all off eventually. (ER/MD/Angiocath/LabTests/IVs/Cardiac Surgeon/oxygen/Anesthesiologist and more!) Not one of the bills was willing to take a small amount - and they all added interest to his bills. For a few months he tried to pay them all but after his payment was made he owed more than before the payment. I told him to just quit paying and go bankrupt if he had to. He doesn't want to do that. Some have just dropped the billings; however he was served with suit papers by one of the bills last week. It is pathetic and disgusting that this has occurred. What is truly disgusting that every day I see waste of medical resources in our medicaid system. It is time for reform so everyone is covered fairly.
