As a registered nurse in long term care I have seen many changes in medicare over the years, and medicaid. As I see the coverage and available services decline while premiums and co-pays go up, I get more frightened. If we have so little regard for our elderly, most of which have overcome many hardships and still been productive citizens, what hope is there that healthcare will be available for anyone in need? You would think that healthcare workers have insurance and care available but this isn't the case. Only 3-5% of our staff is insured, the others have no option that is affordable nor that offers any real coverage for their money. Many of these employees are providing for families so their children and spouses are without adequate healthcare, preventative care, or dental care. Can any of us afford to be ill?
