I recently lived in Barcelona, Spain for 3 years on an international work assignment. I was able to buy my glaucoma-preventing eye drops, my blood pressure medicine and my cholesterol reducing meds over the counter at any pharmacy in town. This "accessibility" of common, frequently used medications, is one reason why European health-care costs so much less per person than here in the states. In addition to making health-care coverage available to all, less-restrictive access to commonly used medications is just one way we can reduce per capita healthcare costs and make good care affordable to all.
