I work for the State of Pennsylvania. I am considered a seasonal employee. I work 40 hours a week from the second week in April till the week before Christmas. That is 8 1/2 months. I am NOT eligible for benefits. THis is very distressing to me since I have worked for this company since 1997. I have no insurance and I can't afford any of the options out there. I am a widow with bills that surpass my income so there is no way I can afford another bill. This is a disgrace when the State cannot even take care of their own employees.
I love my job and that is the reason I am still working here. That and the case that I am now over 50 years old and I know that no matter what they say, I won't find another job. I have an ASB degree in Executive Administrative Assist and I feel that the least the State could do is supply me and other seasonal employees with the benefits that others get in the system. I know that there are employees working only 20 hours a week getting insurance but they work year round. My hours surpass theirs yet I am NOT eligible for benefits. Something is wrong somewhere.
