I had had industry (entertainment/creative) insurance for 17 years, and, about three years ago, I lost my insurance, due to lack of income in the respective unions, partly due to the rise in the dollar requirement for income earned in order to qualify for health insurance.
I was turned down by numerous health plans. I am relatively healthy, but, like most people, have some health history. Well, you would have thought I'd had the Black Plague, I was so uninsurable.
I finally was able to get on an HMO - for only myself, not my family - and after the first year, the monthly premiums went up 85%! That's right. You read it correctly: 85%.
Deplorable.
