When I developed AIDS and was diagnosed with a disability, my private insurance which only had a 25% prescription drug coverage went to over $900.00 per month. I then grossed $1,750.00 per month. To get my drugs (then $2,500.00/mo retail)I had to make less, drop the 25% coverage on insurance and go on public assistance. Then through much advocacy and lobbying by others, etc. the Working Disabled Program was enacted along with Medicare Part D. Now I can gross $3,600.00/mo have small copay and almost go anywhere for care! I have what everyone should have, the US Legislator's Healthcare. Captialism may work for some things, but the fact is healthcare should be a right, the government and private industry need to share the R & D, stop band aiding the systems and come up with the healthcare system including preventative medicine that a country like the US should be proud of. The healthcare system that I am on. If the entire country was on one system we could move or travel without fear of losing it. There is far too much administrative cost as well as gouging in our system not to mention greed of the large corporate mindset. Profit fine, but within reason. We get so close to developing a working solution, then we let special interests sway the path in their direction of worsening status quo.
