Just like millions of Americans, I am in the scary situation of not having any health insurance. I come from a white, middle class family and both of my parents have great jobs with steady incomes. I am 21 and still working my way towards my degree as a full-time student. So I should be covered right? Well, I married my high school sweetheart when I was 19 because he was in the military and we got lots of other benefits. So I was fully covered by military health insurance while he was active duty. But nine months ago, he was suddenly discharged for what should have been medical reasons. The government jumped through some loop holes in that gray area between basic human rights and military control and gave my husband a general discharge. This meant that we were suddenly cut off from our medical and dental plans. I have asthma and just ran out of all my medications. I am able to get by but I live with that ebbing panicky anxiety that if something were to happen and I needed emergency health care... I don't like to think beyond that thought.
