Marjorie

West Deptford, NJ

I have a daughter that was declared disabled due to multiple diagnoses including mental health problems and addiction. She was lucky enough to qualify for social security's financial support and retain coverage under my government-sponsored healthcare from the state. She is doing well and shows promise for a sober and productive future. But the financial support is minimal, covering only part of her rent and not enough to cover food, utilities, or transportation, much less further education. Her dad and I continue to supplement her financially in the amount of $1000 or more a month. Some of her doctors are "out-of-network" requiring more money and paperwork than I can always provide. She has found a partner and roommate, a bright and friendly young man, who has himself been diagnosed with manic-depression. He has no healthcare or financial support other than what his family or I can spare or share. This does not adequately support his needs for medication and therapy, much less food and shelter. In this predicament he cannot improve. He will be applying with family help for government aid, a long and arduous process, but in the meantime his medications are super expensive. The cost of his healthcare and others who are uninsured is out of reach and prevents many from reaching the goals that they would be capable of with adequate support. My daughter and her friend need help before they can start giving back to the world. My productivity is affected, too.
