After I was divorced in 2003 I began to shop for health insurance. I owned my own business and was not insured through an employer. The cost, deductible, and exclusions required me to make a decision not to be insured as it was too expensive. No benefits until after a 7000.00 dollar deductible at 255.00 per month was the BEST I could find at my age.I had never spent 7000.00 on medical care in a year so I felt I was spending 255.00 for nothing. I realize its a gamble. If I am injured or become ill I will lose everything and I know that. I see a doctor yearly and self pay as they call it, for all tests and visits.I have now sold my business and am trying to be hired as a public school teacher mainly because I know as I age I must have health insurance. Untill I can find a job I live always with that nagging fear of how my life could be ruined in one second if I was to be injured without insurance.
