I have only twice in my adult life had to truly use my health care. The first time I was on insurance and told that the test was covered, only to have my health insurance company (CIGNA) reject me because I had not formally requested that my health insurance region be changed from my hometown to my college town, despite the fact that it was precisely because I was in College that I was allowed to remain on my parent's plan.
Once that insurance ran out I was left without insurance as none was affordable, and had an unfortunate accident that left my leg sprained. The hospital refused to tell me what I would be charged for a visitation and ended up billing me over $500, which was more money then I had. Luckily for me the state of Ohio stepped in and helped me cover the costs.
The fact of the matter is that private health insurance doesn't work. Their whole incentive is to charge as much as they can for fairly inelastic services and then find ways to deny coverage. This should not be a for profit industry, because no one profits from human misery.
