My adult son has been without health insurance for the last 5 years, as he has not held a steady job that offered health benefits since then. The jobs he could get either didn't offer benefits or he had to pay for his own health insurance. He desperately needs dental care...I'm afraid he's going to lose his teeth before he's 40, and I'm just waiting for him to get really sick with something and need medical care. I've already spent money on surgery for him 3 years ago. I live in constant fear of his getting cancer or some other debilitating disease and, even if I spent everything I have it wouldn't be enough to save him. I'd like to ask someone: What's wrong with socialized medicine? Other progressive countries, like Canada and England, have it, so it can't be all that bad! I think it's disgraceful that this country doesn't take care of the medical needs of its citizens. It makes me feel ashamed, and it definitely knocks us out of the running for "the greatest country on earth".
