Last August, I suffered a Belle's Palsey attack. I am uninsured and to get any medical assistance, I had to quit my job to become eligible for Medicaid. I am a single parent who works 40-60 hours per week . . . ergo, the Belle's Palsey. My son and I became wards of the state receiving $825 per month in Public Assistance and $295 a month in Food Stamps. I got Housing Assistance through the state as well. I also became a Medicaid recipient. That is all I wanted. Medical assistance. If I had had insurance, I would not have had to quit my job and become a ward of the state to get that medical assistance. As soon as I was cleared by my doctor to go back to work, I did. I got off of food stamps and public assistance, but still qualify for medicaid for a year. That's all I wanted - the medical. We are the wealthiest country in the world with the worst public assistance programs. Wellness healthcare. Take care of your working poor, America. Or, you might have to do those low-paying, dirty jobs yourselves!
