As a self-employed person, and a middle-aged person with a medical history, the only insurance I was able to get would cover only unknown future health issues. It would not cover any pre-existing conditions: anything to do with my thyroid (had hypothyroid), my knee (I had 2 arthroscopic surgeries from injuries) or anything related to my heart because I had a fast resting heart rate. What good is insurance if it won't cover your illnesses?

Most people are scared to leave their jobs because of the lack of medical insurance more than anything else! After I left my last job, I was told that an insurance company would HAVE to pick me up if I paid for COBRA for 18 months. What they didn't tell me, after I finished paying a high price for COBRA was that the insurance company could charge me any exorbitant rate they chose.

There should NOT be health INSURANCE. There should be HEALTH COVERAGE for ALL - working or not. It's a RIGHT in every other non third world country except the richest one of all: The U.S. It's disgraceful!
