My daughter was a student about to graduate from college when she began having severe vertigo. That began to fade when she lost her vision in one eye. She was diagnosed with MS. She had no insurance. The costs for doctor visits and the charges from the hospital when she goes in to see the doctor are very high. She was in a program called GAMP, but later got a part time job at $6/hour, and with the support she gets from me, she then had too much money (more than $992/mo.) and was denied further help from GAMP. She is being provided two drugs by the pharmaceutical companies (one would cost $166/day and the other was $560/month.) That's wonderful, but the expenses are still very high.....She has 3 other medications that we pay for, and she will need another MRI soon. Since she was a student at the time of the diagnosis, if we had been smart enough to have insurance, it would have been a policy for students....and she is unable now to continue with school. I am now working (I could retire...I am 66) because we don't have the means to support this disease without my income. As a result of this, I have gone into a severe depression. I have insurance to cover the expenses for myself, but We need universal health care - NOW.
