My wife is French. 9 years ago, we spent what we thought was going to be a short vacation in France. It was so nice we decided to stay 6 months. When my wife went to the bureau to get a visitor's card for me, she learned that because she had worked for four years in France in the 50's and because she had two children that she raised (at least to the age of 12 years), she was entitled to a very small 'retirement benefit' (about $60/month)AND she was entitled to the French National Health Care System. After very little thought, we decided that rather than paying $942/month for private health care and prescriptions, we would live in France where, yes, there are heavy taxes on nearly everything BUT you get something beneficial for your taxes. Our total health care costs only a supplemental payment of $150/month! America could do likewise!
