In May my daughter suffered an infection which was diagnosed in an emergency room. On June 3o my daughter experienced a tragic trauma which lead to another emergency room visit, and resulted in hospitalization for 4 days. She had another crisis two weeks later resulting in yet another trip to the emergency room. Each of the visits to the ER were serious or critical. The medication she was prescribed comes to about $200. a month (that is the copay). Now I am being threatened by hospitals that I must go to collections if I cannot pay the entire amount owed within thirty days of discharge. After the many charges I own nearly $2500. in co-pays. I only make $1700. a month. Unfortunately, I will probably go to collections which will result in higher fees for not having enough money to pay my bills. What next? Debtors prisons? Why do Americans fear the loss of all for the gain of life? This is a disgrace. We demand health care reform and we demand it NOW!
