Linda

Casselberry, FL

I am a self-employed real estate investor/property manager. My health insurance has tripled in the past 7-8 years.
Recently, I was forced to discontinue my health insurance, due to the exorbitant cost of $604 per month. My renewal would have been $640 per month. Due to the current housing market, I have been unable to sell a house I had purchased to remodel and sell, forcing me with a choice of paying the mortgage or paying for health insurance.

The health insurance I paid so dearly for provided me with limited benefits. I had a $2,500 deductible and a 5 day maximum hospital benefit, yearly, for mental health.
I was hospitalized last year once for 5 days, which the $2,500 deductible was applied, leaving me with a bill due to the hospital for appx. $3,800. I was hospitalized again for 12 days, my benefits were exhausted, leaving me with another bill due to the hospital for appx. $9,000. Aetna would not even cover the lab or Rx costs stating that my benefits were exhausted.

The insurance companies are taking advantage of our broken government. The drug companies are making huge profits at the expense of our citizens who require the medications for survival. Affordable healthcare must be available to everyone, expecially the middle class citizens that are suffering the most.
