I retired to Croatia in 1999. I am a American citizen as yet but I am a permanant resident of the country. I am on their single payer health care system. For around $80 U.S I have total coverage and I also have the option of using private health care providers which I have done and even then the cost is about a third of what one would pay for the same service in the states.I still have relatives in the states and here the stories about insurance or lack of it and what it costs to walk into a Dr's office for something. I feel I made the right choice when I retired. I live a comfortable life here ansd don't have to worry about going bankrupt if I get a hangnail or something
