In our current environment, people can get emergency coverage, but chronic problems are just not covered. That means that diseases go untreated until they reach a crisis point. This increases suffering and society's cost because there is cost shifting from those who do have insurance. In a sense, there is universal coverage, but only for emergencies, and in a very cost inefficient format! We as a society should choose to support each other and be sensible about how we spend our limited resources so that health problems of our society are managed before it's too late.
