My son has a VSD; it's small and not growing, and he's happy, healthy, and full of energy. The doctors say we should not cut into his healthy body; our insurer says that unless we do, they won't cover him! I have a family plan that covers my wife and daughter, but not my son; he has to have a separate health plan. He's a second class citizen in this country of all men being created equal!
To add insult to injury, my family health plan has gone up 400% in a little over four years; way over the inflation rate. I'm an independent (after being laid off in 2001), and it's now risen to rival our California mortgage in size. It's hard to try to increase the income when the health insurance bill eats up all the increase I get!
Health insurance isn't working for anyone; employees are being asked to pay more, employeres are finding it harder to cover, and independents are being squeezed. It's killing American competitiveness! I've lived overseas where national health insurance worked, so don't try the story that it doesn't. We need viable health care NOW!
