Guntersville, AL

I am a 59 YO disabled, retired, state (not Alabama, where I live) employee. I do not qualify for Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid, my insurance is thru my public employees retirement association.

My doctors have told me that I need bearatric surgery for the past 7 years but coverage for this surgery is written out of the insurance contract. I cannot afford to find out if I am a candidate much less pay for the surgery out of my own pocket.

I no longer bother with mamograms or pap smears that are covered by my insurance because I cannot afford the deductable and co-pays should I need treatment for those cancers.

I struggle to pay for the thyroid test that my doctors need to gauge my meds. I cannot afford other test that might help with other health issues.

I hate going to WalMart for my medications. I want to support the independant local pharmacy but the insurance co-pays are unafordable. Who knows what is in those $4.00 generic Chinese medications from WalMart?

There is assistance that I cannot qualify for because I am not receiving any Social Security, Medicare or Medicade.

Why is the cost of my health insurance and medical expenses not considered when my income is used as the qualifier for services?

Why isn't there help for people like me who worked, paid taxes and are now falling thru the cracks?

Why isn't there help negotating this awful minefield?
