Andrew

Brownstown, MI

My mother was diagnosed with leukemia and she had health insurance because of my Father' employer but the company had filed for bankruptcy and closed. Her health care benefits were paid from a VEBA account because my father had a union representing him. But because of the high costs of treatment my mother was denied coverage at a hospital her physician wanted to admit her at. So while trying to find a hospital who would accept my mother's insurance, valuable time was wasted. When she finally found a hospital who would treat her, the cancer spread and even with treatments, it could not be stopped. She passed away and after her death I received a letter from her Physician who retired because he explained he took an oath to his practice but because of the Insurance carriers and someone sitting in an office making life and death decisions, he could not fulfill the duties of his job and the oath he took. The worst part was after a few months, the hospital she was originally sent to and denied coverage tried to get me to pay the bill for the care they would not provide.
