Visit your elected officials - Instructions

If you can't attend an event near you, you can still send a strong message to Congress. Just round up a few of your friends, family and neighbors and go visit the local office of your Senators or Representative.

Follow these instructions to make sure your Member of Congress knows you voted for change and they must deliver:

Step 1: Make sure there are no events in your area

Attending a rally in your area is a much better way to send a message than going to a Member of Congress' office on your own. The more people we have at these rallies, the stronger the message will be. Before you set up your own visit to your Member of Congress' office, make sure there's not an event in your area already.

Enter your zip code below to check for events near you.

Step 2: Find your local Member of Congress

Click here to go to Congress.org. Enter in your address to find your Senators and Representative and their office addresses.

Choose a Member of Congress with an office near you. In general, Democrats will be more receptive to your message than Republicans.

Step 3: Choose a date and time

Choose a date and time for your visit, one thats convenient for you, your family and your friends.

Offices for Members of Congress are typically open during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 am - 5 pm). Rallies will be happening all over the country on Wednesday, February 17th. That date is the best one for you to make the most impact, but if you need to move the date, feel free.

Step 4: Publicize your visit

It's always better to go and visit your Member of Congress with a group of like-minded people.

Click here to enter your event into our online database. This will allow other people who live in your area to find and attend your event from our website. Just follow the instructions to enter your event.

You can also promote your event by sending emails to your friends, family, neighbors and community members, or by creating an event on Facebook.

You can also click here to download a flyer for your visit [pdf]. Fill in your visit's time, date, and location and print copies of this flyer to distribute in your neighborhood, in your church or local coffee house, or to put on a community bulletin board.

Step 5: Go on your visit

We've put together some materials to bring with you to your Member of Congress' office to help you have the most impact. Print out and familiarize yourself with these materials before you go on your visit.
