11/12/09 - New TV Ads: Health Care Reform Deserves Debate

Health Care for America Now released two television ads – one in Arkansas and one in Nebraska – asking Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Ben Nelson (D-NE), and Mike Johanns (R-NE) to vote in favor of allowing health care reform to reach the Senate floor and then allowing a vote on the bill.

10/22/09 - TV and Print Ads to Coincide with the Anti-AHIP Action

HCAN released a TV and print ad to coincide with anti-health insurance actions. The TV calls out America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) – the health insurance lobby – for releasing a bogus report on the eve of the Senate Finance Committee vote in an attempt to kill meaningful reform.

HCAN launched a television ad emphasizing the lack of real competition in the health insurance marketplace and showing we need the choice of a public health insurance option to drive down costs and keep the insurance companies honest.
10/15/09 - Television and Print Ads: Taxing Health Plans Is Wrong Way to Pay for Health Care Reform

HCAN launched a print and television advertising campaign saying there is a right way and a wrong way to pay for health care reform. HCAN says rather than taxing the health care benefits of middle-income families, we should ask those making more than $250,000 a year to pay their fair share and ask all but the smallest businesses to contribute.

Health Care for America Now launched a television ad in Nevada aimed at Republican Senator John Ensign. Senator Ensign is a member of the Senate Finance Committee which is voting on health care reform legislation this week. The Senator has already voted down two amendments that would give everyone the choice of a strong national public health insurance option - proof he is siding with the private health insurance industry instead of the people of Nevada.

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – launched the next phase in its ongoing “Sick of It” anti-insurance push today, focusing on rich health insurance CEOs making millions and living in luxury while middle class families are struggling to pay medical bills, going bankrupt, and losing their homes. Last Tuesday, thousands of activists participated in more than 150 anti-insurance company protests nationwide. Health Care for America Now’s message is simple: “If the insurance companies win, you lose.”

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – launched a new national advertising campaign today, honing in on the private insurance industry’s bad practices and excessive greed and stating that if the insurance companies win and get their way in shaping health care reform, the American people lose. The ads all call for good health care people can afford with the choice of a public health insurance option.

As Congress returns to Washington and President Obama gets set to speak to the nation about health care reform tomorrow night, Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – in conjunction with Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the Main Street Alliance - has launched a new advertising and grassroots campaign in Maine. The weeklong blitz includes television, radio, print, and online adverting and will see organizers from Maine People’s Alliance and its HCAN allies visiting editorial boards, canvassing, holding a press conference and other events, and encouraging Mainers to sign an online petition asking Senator Snowe to stand up to insurance company lobbyists.

As President Obama and Democrats in Congress continue to speak to the country about achieving comprehensive health insurance reform, Health Care for America Now (HCAN) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) have launched a new $650,000 television advertising campaign targeting Republican leadership in the House and Senate and seven additional Republican members of Congress. The ad points out that while they have a guarantee of good health care as members of Congress, the Republicans oppose legislation that would lower costs for America’s families and business and stop insurance company abuses. At the same time, they have taken millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the health care industry.

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – expanded its television advertising, launching the “What if” ad in four new districts and continuing to build public support for reform in two states. The ad urges key Members of Congress and Senators to support legislation that will lower costs, expand coverage, and stop insurance company abuses and will allow people to keep the insurance they have now or choose from a range of plans, including a new public health insurance option.

“Fighter” aired for five days in Congressional districts represented by six Republican House members and one Republican Senator who voted against health care reform legislation last week: Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Representatives Dave Camp (MI-04), Pat Tiberi (OH-12), Mark E. Souder (IN-03), Dave G. Reichert (WA-08), Eric Cantor (VA-07) and Bill Cassidy (LA-06). HCAN is also running an ad against Arizona Representative John B. Shadegg (AZ-03) who has been the prime sponsor of legislation that would allow insurance companies to escape state regulation of pre-existing conditions.

The ad titled “What If” is running for five days starting today in Congressional districts represented by Bart Gordon (TN-06 ), Bart Stupak (MI-01), Mike Ross (AR-04), John Barrow (GA-12), Baron Hill (IN-09), Zachary Space (OH-18), and Charlie Melancon (LA-03). The ad is also on the air statewide in North Dakota starting Monday, and AFSCME is sponsoring a version of the same ad in California.

Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – released an ad campaign thanking Senators and Members of Congress for being champions of real health care reform. The new ad campaign includes television ads in Nevada and Connecticut thanking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Chris Dodd and print ads in the districts of Representatives Bruce Braley (IA-1), David Price (NC-4), Mike Michaud (ME-2), Chris Murphy (CT-5), Allison Schwartz (PA-13), Adam Schiff (CA-29), Jane Harman (CA-36), and Loretta Sanchez (CA-47).

The ad shows that President Obama’s health care plan will get rid of exorbitant corporate profits, bloated CEO bonuses, endless denials, and skyrocketing costs while giving voters more choice and making private insurance companies behave better.

The TV ad, "Doctor" ran in six key states emphasizing the need for a public health insurance option in health care reform and asking nine specific Senators to support that choice: Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA), Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE), Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE), Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR), Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN), Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN), and Senator Thomas Carper (D-DE). The ad names the Senators in each state who have not yet publicly signed on in support of a public health insurance option.

The TV Ad "Shady" details anti-reform front man Rick Scott’s dubious past in the health care industry. The former CEO of Columbia/Hospital Corporation of America was forced to resign in 1997, and Columbia/HCA agreed to pay $1.7 billion in fines and penalties – the largest fraud settlement in US history. The hospital corporation pleaded guilty to a litany of criminal and civil charges including lying to the government about how sick patients were so they could collect larger fees.

In anticipation of Monday’s White House Regional Health Care Forum in Des Moines, IA, Health Care for America Now (HCAN) debuted a TV ad today which reminds Iowans they should have the choice of a public health insurance plan as part of real health care reform in 2009 so they are no longer at the mercy of private health insurance companies. Iowa Senator Charles Grassley, the ranking Republican member of the Senate Finance Committee, told President Obama at the White House Health Summit that he was against giving Americans the choice of a public health insurance plan.
