Washington, DCJon “Bowzer” Bauman – formerly of the 50's revival group Sha Na Na and currently of Bowzer's Rock 'n' Roll Party - has recorded a special version of the Halloween classic “Monster Mash” to go along with Health Care for America Now (HCAN) actions taking place across the country this weekend. Titled “Health Care Mash,” the song targets insurance companies for trying to kill meaningful health care reform.  Anyone calling Congress through HCAN’s toll-free line will hear the parody play for 40 seconds before being prompted to connect to a Senator or Representative.

Health Care for America Now partners across the country are celebrating Halloween this weekend with grassroots activities in more than 40 cities designed to warn constituents about the “tricks” that insurance industry CEOs use to maximize profits. The actions include leafleting, holding press conferences in front of insurance company buildings, generating calls to Congress, calling out insurance industry executives and board members working to spook Americans to protect their profits, and spreading the word that if the insurance companies win, we lose.

"For the ghosts and ghouls of the health insurance industry, it's Halloween tricks and scare tactics all year long. Now it's up to Congress to treat people with reform that ends health insurance horrors,” said Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager, Health Care for America Now. “We need reform that makes health care more affordable, regulates the insurance industry, ensures employer responsibility, generates revenue through fair financing rather than taxation of higher-cost plans, and implements a strong public health insurance option.

Jon “Bowzer” Bauman also wrote an email for HCAN sent to seniors in Florida and Kentucky on Monday September 28th entitled “Despicable: Stop Humana from Scaring Seniors.” See the email here.

"Every American family is one catastrophic illness away from financial ruin, and in a country as great as ours, that's intolerable,” said Bauman. “The need for health care reform is urgent, and public activism is essential to fight the entrenched financial interests that want to maintain the status quo.”

With the “Health Care Mash,” HCAN continues to use the "Call Congress" tool built by Scott Goodstein and the Revolution Messaging team. As External Online Director for Obama for America, Goodstein created and implemented the Presidential campaign's mobile communications strategy, including its widely publicized and successful text messaging campaign.

Lyrics to “Health Care Mash”:

They were working the lab late one night
Trying to make sure no one got health care right
Their formula's no different from the status quo
Insurance Companies just want to rake in your dough

They did the mash
They did the health care mash
They did the mash
It was a graveyard smash
They did the mash
They'll deny you in flash
They did the mash
They did the health care mash
