New TV Ad Backs Obama Saying We Must Do Health Care Now
Health Care For America Now launches ad in DC: Fixing Economy Means Fixing Health Care

Washington, DC – Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the largest health care advocacy campaign – launched a new television ad today in the DC area while Congress is back in town for the lame duck session. The ad is designed to promote President-elect Obama’s commitment to fixing health care in 2009 in order to turn around the American economy.
On October 4, 2008, Obama gave an impassioned speech on the campaign trail in Newport News, VA in which he spoke about the urgency of fixing our health care system now:
"The question isn't, ‘How we can afford to focus on health care?” he said. “The question is, ‘How can we afford not to?’ Because in order to fix our economic crisis, and rebuild our middle class, we need to fix our health care system too…It is clear that the time has come – right now – to solve this problem.”
The ad – which airs this week in DC - mixes Obama “in his own words” with HCAN’s message of congratulations and pledge of support to help Obama deliver on his promise. With more than 525 local, state, and national member organizations and representing millions of individuals, HCAN is the boots on the ground army that can back Obama in the fight against big money corporate interests. Obama signed on to the HCAN principles of reform two days after the Newport News speech, and he’s now joined by 156 members of the 111th Congress who are committed to a guarantee of quality, affordable health care for all in 2009.
“We know there will be tremendous opposition to real reform – both from industries that benefit from the status quo and from members of Congress who are not used to taking the bold steps we need to create a new economy that works for American families and businesses.
