Nation’s Largest Health Care Campaign Releases New TV and Print Ads Thanking Health Care Reform Champions In House and Senate

Washington, DC – Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – released a new ad campaign today thanking Senators and Members of Congress for being champions of real health care reform. The new ad campaign includes television ads in Nevada and Connecticut thanking Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Chris Dodd and print ads in the districts of Representatives Bruce Braley (IA-1), David Price (NC-4), Mike Michaud (ME-2), Chris Murphy (CT-5), Allison Schwartz (PA-13), Adam Schiff (CA-29), Jane Harman (CA-36), and Loretta Sanchez (CA-47).

“Real health care reform is moving faster and farther than at any point in decades,” said Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager for HCAN. “This is in large part due to the many champions health care reform has on Capitol Hill. There are special interests groups and some Members of Congress trying to water down or defeat this legislation. Our job is to thank our champions and hold those standing in the way of real reform accountable.”

On Thursday in Nevada, members of the Health Care for America Now campaign, including union groups like SEIU, AFSCME, and the Culinary Union and community groups such as TRENDZ, Democracia, and Planned Parenthood, will be thanking Senator Reid for his leadership by delivering a DVD copy of the ad and a thank you card to the Federal Building where Senator Reid’s Las Vegas office is located.  A staffer from the office will come out, greet the delegation, and accept the card and DVD on behalf of the Senator.

"We want to thank Senator Reid for his unwavering commitment to the people of Nevada and particularly his leadership in helping move a health reform bill that holds insurance companies accountable, makes health care affordable, and provides quality care for everyone here in Nevada and throughout the country,” said Theresa Navarro, Nevada HCAN Director.

In Connecticut, “Thank you, Senator Dodd” features the voice of Jennifer Bass of Scotland, Connecticut who is currently facing a 22 percent jump in her private health insurance premiums and doesn’t know how she will be able to continue to afford them. The Hartford Courant profiled Jennifer in an article earlier this month. 

"Connecticut should be proud that at this historic moment, Senator Dodd is leading President Obama's fight for health care reform. Senator Dodd's ability to include such important provisions as shared employer responsibility and a new public health insurance option in the HELP Committee legislation shows his effectiveness as a consumer champion," said Tom Swan, Director of the Connecticut Citizen Action Group (CCAG).

The television ads in Connecticut and Nevada will run for five days starting today. The print ads will appear in IA, NC, ME, CT, and PA on Thursday and in California the following Thursday.
