Washington, DC – Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – expanded its television advertising today, launching the “What if” ad in four new districts and continuing to build public support for reform in two states. The ad urges key Members of Congress and Senators to support legislation that will lower costs, expand coverage, and stop insurance company abuses and will allow people to keep the insurance they have now or choose from a range of plans, including a new public health insurance option.
The ad titled “What If” is running for a week starting today in Congressional districts represented by Reps. Jason Altmire (PA-04), Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (SD-At Large), and Rick Boucher (VA-09). It’s airing in upstate New York asking constituents to call their Congressmen there, and it will be on the air in New Mexico and Delaware, urging Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) and Thomas Carper (D-DE) to support good, comprehensive reform.
The ad shows that President Obama’s health care plan will get rid of exorbitant corporate profits, bloated CEO compensation, endless denials, and skyrocketing costs while giving voters more choice and making private insurance companies behave better.
“We knew the health care debate was bound to heat up in August,” said Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager of Health Care for America Now. “With the opposition now out in full force, being fed misinformation and urged on by corporate interests invested in the status quo, we want to remind elected officials what’s at stake. Our families and businesses no longer can wait for change. We can’t be deterred by angry rhetoric or frozen by fear. We need quality, affordable health care for all this year. It’s time.”
