Washington, DC – Health care reform advocates are wasting no time saying thank you to Members of Congress who voted to pass comprehensive health care legislation – the Affordable Health Care for America Act (H.R. 3962) – through the House of Representatives late Saturday night.

Health Care for America Now (HCAN), in partnership with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) - announced it is running TV ads in 20 House districts beginning Tuesday and holding hundreds of grassroots events thanking members of Congress this week. HCAN is the nation's largest health care campaign and has been mobilized nationwide to win a guarantee of quality, affordable health care for all in 2009. The 1.6 million-member AFSCME, one of the leading members of HCAN, represents public service workers in hundreds of different occupations across the country.
“It takes courage to stand up to the lies and scare tactics. It's imperative voters understand the important role these Members of Congress have played in taking an historic step, voting yes, and siding with constituents instead of the health insurance industry,” said Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager, Health Care for America Now.
The ad titled “About More“ explains that health care reform is about more than just health care. It's about helping small business, growing the economy, taking on the health insurance industry, and more.
Starting today, state organizers will lead airport greetings, press conferences, office visits, and other events in appreciation of the Democrats - and one Republican - who helped make history with their votes for health care reform. Other reform advocates like HCAN partner Americans United for Change will be airing thank you ads in additional districts
The first flight of ads asks constituents to call and thank the following members: Jim Himes (CT-4), Michael Arcuri (NY-24), Dina Titus (NV-3), Carol Shea-Porter (NH-1), Mark H. Schauer (MI-7), Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15), Debbie Halvorson (IL-11), Bill Owens (NY-23), Gary G. Peters (MI-9), Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-1), Bill Foster (IL-14), Kurt Schrader (OR-5), Harry Mitchell (AZ-5), Martin Heinrich (NM-1), Jerry McNerney (CA-11), Steve Kagen (WI-8), John Hall (NY-19), Dan Maffei (NY-25), Timothy Bishop (NY-1), and Leonard Boswell (IA-3).
