HCAN Commends Strong, Unified Draft of Health Care Bill in House

Washington, DC – Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation’s largest health care campaign – released the following statement today on Chairmen of the House Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, and Education and Labor Committees releasing their discussion draft for health care reform:

Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager, Health Care for America Now

“This is a tremendous effort and an excellent example of what can be accomplished when Members of Congress work together to do what’s best for the people they represent.
The House bill does what America needs. It provides good, affordable coverage for all, implements shared responsibility for individuals and employers, and gives everyone a choice of regulated insurers or a public health insurance option that will lower costs and keep insurance companies honest.

The House bill is resounding evidence that we can achieve the President’s goal of quality, affordable health care for all this year, and it can be done right. It’s absolutely possible.

Health Care for America Now will be rallying around the country in support of this bill. Seeing such a strong, unified effort come out of the House just reinforces our grassroots commitment to making sure lawmakers know we expect them to get it done.

For those who say it’s too hard, too complicated, too expensive, this bill is proof positive that we can do this in America.”
