Actress Edie Falco Joins HCAN to Launch Text Message Rapid Response Campaign
Web Video Introduces Technology and Invites Supporters to Washington, DC on June 25th for Health Care Lobby Day
Washington, DC – With health care reform taking center stage, Emmy-award winning actress Edie Falco is speaking out on behalf of quality, affordable health care for all and Health Care for America Now (HCAN) – the nation's largest health care campaign. In a new web video just out today, Falco launches HCAN's text message rapid response campaign and invites supporters to join her in Washington, DC on June 25, 2009 for “Health Care '09” - the nation's largest health care lobby day ever.

“I’m traveling to DC on June 25th because if you believe in something, you have to speak up,” said Ms. Falco. “We are at a moment in time when we can actually make change that impacts people’s lives in a very real way. We got have got to fix health care, and we have got to do it right now. Health care reform cannot wait.”
HCAN will use its new text message campaign – asking supporters to text “HEALTH” to 94553 - to send updates on fast-moving health care reform activities throughout the summer and to continue to organize and mobilize its more than 1000 member organizations representing more than 30 million people nationwide.
“Legislation is starting to move, and now we're firing on all cylinders,” said Richard Kirsch, National Campaign Manager, Health Care for America Now. “Insurance companies and some conservatives are already lying to the public about President Obama's health care proposals. He wants to let everyone keep their private health insurance or join a new public health insurance plan, and we'll use the same technology the President used during his campaign to fight back against the mischaracterizations and make sure everyone in America knows the truth.”
HCAN is working with Scott Goodstein, CEO of Revolution Messaging and External Online Director for Obama for America. Goodstein created and implemented the Presidential campaign's mobile communications strategy, including its widely publicized and successful text messaging campaign.
In addition to telling everyone to text HEALTH to 94553 which registers one's cell phone to receive updates from HCAN, Ms. Falco invites supporters to join her and HCAN in DC later this month for “Health Care '09” - a day of action which will bring thousands to Washington for several town halls, a rally, and more than 300 Congressional visits which will make it the largest health care lobby day in history.
