Virginia Organizing Project exposes local health insurance greed as part of Health Care for America Now Campaign (Insurance Actions)
VOP to protest outside Anthem’s Virginia corporate headquarters in Richmond.
This Friday, the Virginia Organizing Project (VOP) will expose how high premiums and excess profits by health insurers put affordable health care out of reach for millions of insured and uninsured people outside of Anthem’s Richmond headquarters. VOP is highlighting Anthem as part of the Health Care for America Now (HCAN) Campaign that is organizing activities in 45 states in the next few months to push for a guarantee of quality, affordable health care for everyone in 2009.
VOP will release a new report compiled by another HCAN partner, the Northwest Federation of Community Organizations, “Insuring Health or Ensuring Profit? — A Snapshot of the Health Insurance Industry in the United States”. The report looks at recent financial trends for major national health insurance companies, as well as subsidiaries of national and regional companies and independent insurers in 26 states, including Virginia.

Host: Joe Szakos
