Health Care Leaders

HCAN was a national coalition representing 1,000 local, state and national groups and was founded by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Service Employees International Union (SEIU), USAction and Americans United for Change along with the AFL-CIO, Campaign for America’s Future, Campaign for Community Change (CCC), MoveOn and the National Education Association (NEA).

Also on HCAN’s Steering Committee were ACORN, American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Center for American Progress (CAP), Communications Workers of America (CWA), NAACP, National Council of La Raza (NCLR), National Women’s Law Center (NWLC), Progressive Future, United Auto Workers (UAW), United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), and Working America.

HCAN’s national field partners were ACORN, CCC/Northwest Federation of Community Organizations (now Alliance for a Just Society), Leadership Center for the Common Good and USAction.
